Intro
On April 15, 2026, Bandai Namco announced a new live stream for the Super Robot Wars series. The live stream will be held on YouTube on April 20, at 2000 JST. The first part will feature "new information for Super Robot Wars Y". The second part of the stream will focus on the mobile game SRW DD, which recently celebrated its 6.5th anniversary.
The stream will feature the usual suspects: comedy duo Gattsukitaika as the MCs, SRW Y producer Touma Kouta, and SRW DD producer Matsumoto (who replaced producer Oochi in 2025. Oochi still works at Bandai Namco).
I will hold a watch party on Twitch to translate the important parts of the stream live, and I will have a full summary article available for Ko-fi subscribers insha Allah. See the previous summary for an example.
Super Robot Wars Y already had two DLC packs announced before its release on August 28 2025. The first DLC was released on November 19, 2025. The second DLC was on February 4 2026.
It's likely Bandai Namco will announce a third DLC pack for SRW Y, with new series joining the fray. SRW Y might get more new content as well, similarly to the addition of the Battle Rush Mode.
Moreover, note that the producer has already ruled out a "Super Robot Wars Y 2".

April 20 marks the anniversary of the Super Robot Taisen series

The first SRW game was released on Nintendo Game Boy on April 20, 1991, so this year marks the 35th anniversary of the series. It's very likely the producers will touch upon this as well, but don't expect any major announcements such as a new game reveal.
The last two games, SRW 30, SRW Y, were both first announced via the Japanese versions of Nintendo Direct. It's very likely future SRW game announcements will keep being made this way.
As a reminder, there was a four years gap between SRW 30 and Y due to the development team switching engines. ToumaP already confirmed the next game won't take as much time to release. Don't expect yearly releases to ever come back though.
They could also announce another live stream specifically to celebrate the 35th anniversary, and we'd get more announcements there. Just another possibility I'm hoping for.
An OG game is in development
4th trailer for Super Robot Wars Original Generations 2nd, released on November 29 2012 on PS3, only in Japan
Super Robot Wars Original Generations 2nd, released in 2012, was one of the projects celebrating the 20th anniversary of the series. Its sequel, SRW OG Moon Dwellers released in 2016, was part of the 25th anniversary projects. The 30th anniversary was celebrated by SRW 30, with no new OG game.
As far as I know, the last time we got a direct official statement regarding the SRW OG series was on July 11 2021, during the live stream that celebrated the 30th anniversary and fully revealed SRW 30. That stream was legendary as it featured different segments with nearly all my favorite SRW-related seiyuu (Kamiya Akira, Inada Tetsu, Hiyama Nobuyuki, Midorikawa Hikaru, Aizawa Mai, Nakamura Yuuichi, Sugita Tomokazu, Akabane Kenji, Nagaku Yuki, Azakami Yohei), legendary animator Obari Masami, etc.
On that stream, TeradaP and OochiP said that the next OG game was in development, and how they usually try to balance development time between the mainline games and OG games, to be able to announce an OG game around a milestone anniversary. However, the new OG game's development was paused as they were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and had to focus on the developments of SRW DD and SRW 30.
They also mentioned how fans regularly ask them about OG games, and it's not like they forgot about the series. Lastly, they also specified that they do want to finish the series one day. Though this doesn't necessarily mean that the next OG game will be the final one.
(The stream was made private, so you'll have to take my word for it. I also wrote an article about it back then. At the time, the site I wrote for turned into a full SEO Mean Bean Machine, so my articles were terribly written.)
Terada Takanobu is still working on the OG series
As a reminder, Terada Takanobu, who is one of the main writers of the OG series, left Bandai Namco in August 2021 to go freelance. He was also the producer of the SRW series as a whole. He doesn't work on the main SRW series anymore and didn't work on SRW Y. He still works on the OG series but he can only talk about it with Bandai Namco's approval, and afaik they haven't made any new announcement since the aforementioned 30th anniversary stream. Terada also works on a lot of toy projects with Bandai Namco subsidiaries and toy manufacturers. Many OG mecha got toy releases these past few years, some for the first time ever.
Terada also worked on SRW DD, to write some of the scenario and supervise some of the battle animations, especially for OG characters. However, he stopped working on DD as of November 1 2024.
(As a side note, another one of the SRW writers, Morizumi Soichiro, regularly streams on YouTube for years now.)

OG characters in DD
SRW DD regularly adds OG characters / new attacks for previously added OG characters. For these attacks, the characters often get brand new artwork by Kouno Sachiko, one of the iconic character designers of SRW OG. Sometimes, characters get attacks that we haven't seen in other games yet.
For example, this Possession Cybuster attack released in March 2026, 影現虚空斬破 (Eigen Koukuuzanba?), as far as I know is brand new and was not in the Masoukishin games. It also has a Cyfis cutin similar to 真伝・乱舞の太刀(Shinden Ranbu no Tachi) that appeared starting Masoukishin 2 on PSP.

The OG Manga is Still Ongoing
Another noteworthy fact is that Super Robot Wars OG Record of ATX The Inspector BAD BEAT BUNKER is still ongoing. Still one of the funniest and longest manga names ever.
It's the SRW OG manga adapting OG2/ Episode 2: The Inspector, ongoing since 2011. Still drawn by Yatsufusa Tatsunosuke (I really like Rudi Pixyzalto, one of the characters they designed for SRW T).
The manga is almost at the end of OG2. Latest chapters featured the fight against Wendolo. Volume 11 was released on March 27.

Hoping for remasters of past SRW OG games
Like I always say, it's very unlikely, near impossible that regular SRW games ever get rereleases, baring full remakes.
It's already unlikely for games with a single anime licence to get rereleased. I still can't believe Konami is remastering some of the Prince of Tennis raising sims / otome games, and is even translating them. It feels like a miracle. I don't think crossover games with multiple copyrights involved like SRW will ever get rereleased.

However, remasters for the OG series could be possible as they aren't a copyrights conundrum. I assume there could still be issues though, even if it technically all belongs to Bandai Namco. Kinda like how Pretty Rhythm is barely ever featured in Pretty Series events and concerts and how it might have to do with how Pretty Rhythm was made before Pretty Series was passed from Takara Tomy to its subsidiary Takara Tomy Arts. So technically even if it's the same company they seem to have some weird copyrights problems.

But yeah. It'd be incredible to see the OG games getting remasters /ports. It'd be cool if OG1 and OG2 on GBA could at least get on the Switch Online one day. They could do ports for Orignal Generations and Original Generations Gaiden, stuck on PS2. Original Generation 2nd is on PS3. OG Moon Dwellers is on PS3 and PS4. Would be great if Moon Dwellers got a new, proper translation too. If remasters of the old games happen I doubt they'll actually translate them, but at the very least retranslating OGMD would be nice and prepare the terrain for the next brand new game.
Quick thoughts on the future of SRW
2nd Japanese trailer for SRW OG Moon Dwellers
It's safe to assume the next OG game is facing the same engine change problem as SRW Y. Meaning they can't just port the animations and need to recreate them in the new engine. This must be why it's taking so much time.
Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind at all if the next OG game still had most animation choreography and storyboards copied from OG 2nd. It's one of the best looking, best animated games of all time.
As for the main series, I still haven't played SRW Y much, but it's obvious for over a decade now that the golden age of SRW is over. I'm not expecting the series to ever get back to the level of quality of games like Z1 on PS2.
Still, I think the people at Bandai Namco Forge (the new name of Studio B.B. the developers of SRW) are trying their best despite the odds (I need to translate this Famitsu interview for Ko-fi subs). Like, it's clear they don't have much resources to work with. And like, things could be worse, see how Bandai Namco is handling Tekken 8 or the Tales of series for example. The Tales of series 30th anniversary is miserable.

I think the newer SRW games aren't that bad either. And I'd be happy as long as they keep making above average games, with cool crossover moments and well-written stories.
