Absolute Cinema Acclaimed Banger Peak Skibbidi Kino #757 - Fire Emblem Seisen no Peakfu
One of the true Melrose Placest video games in history, of KAGA fame.
Asalam aleikoum how's it going. I was thinking of writing a short article with my impressions of the Fire Emblem Banshisenkou (Fortune's Weave) direct that happened on August 5. But well I should save it for pitches. I could write 500 words on the War Elephant rode by Anna alone, as a Muslim and as an Age of Empire 2 aficionados.
The only thing I'll say is, regarding the character design. I initially praised the game's chara design with its Black and dark-skinned characters, but the more new characters I saw with the Japanese Twitter's daily character reveals, the more a certain grey thought has been on my mind. Maybe the lighting and angles just make it look that way. Maybe there's some loli'sdragonmagic reason as to why some Black characters look okay and some others... So I wanted to play the game before bringing this up, but as I don't even know if I'll actually get to play it and don't really buy games at launch nowadays unless I have to review them... I'll say it now...
The ashes. Yeah...
This is just the tip of the iceberg though. And there are a lot of other things with some of the Black characters and dark-skinned characters, not only related to their visual chara design, that I think are bad or weird. Things I notice as a Black otaku who's been watching anime for a long while and also loves discussing chara design.
The saddest thing is this is still better representation than 95% of other anime style games.
Anyway, I knew the game would have different routes in its first half and a common route in the second half. I never put my predictions on paper, so I can't say " I was right!!" though.
However, I'm surprised at the ability to switch protagonists at any time in the first half. I feel it could have been cooler if they made specific triggers in the stories, forcing you to switch protagonists at certain moments to progress a story and then another. (I wish they'd stop doing player insert protagonists, though I really like Belesu. It's kinda ironic paying Matsuoka Yoshitsugu and Inoue Marina tons of star seiyuu cash just for them to do silent "hmph!" lol.)
And I think I already said this multiple times, but the main reason I love Fuukasetsugetsu (3H) is that it finally tried to do something different. Like giving every character long backstories. It took risks. So it's a bit of a shame that FE Switch 2 is just more of the same.
I don't wanna disrespect the English dub's talents but the JP version is just so much more
Anyway, I have a lot of worries about FE Switch 2, but at least there still is Fire Emblem - Genealogy of the Holy War. The best game in the series
I haven't played every single Fire Emblem yet, maybe half the series in total. But Fire Emblem 4 has been my favorite ever since I first played it in 2012 or so.
Fire Emblem four is such an unique game and there aren't any other Fire Emblem, let alone any other tactical RPG like it in my knowledge. The big maps, the story, the problematic drama, the cool battle animations on a "connected ground" instead of tiles. The relationships and inheritance systems.
You should play the game yourself, it has a really good patch in English. There are patches in other languages as well.
I'm often asking for a Fire Emblem 4 remake, but it's not that I think the game needs one. I want it to be a RomanCHAD SaGa Africa 2 Remake situation, where instead of one masterpiece to play, you've got two of them, the original and the remake, different but relevant, so close yet so far. There's also how a remake would be fully voiced, and it'd be incredible if they used the cast from FE Heroes (though I think some few tweaks to avoid typecasting seiyuu too much would be nice).
I'd also love some kind of ultimate remake re-imagining Fire Emblem 4 and Fire Emblem 5, Thracia 776 into one giga long game. Complete with different gameplay and characters. Like, the FE4 part reusing mechanics from FE4, and the FE5 parts reusing FE5's systems. It'd be really ambitious and crazy and this will probably never exist in this world, but it's a cool thing to dream about.
Another thing I want from an FE4 remake is for it to incorporate elements from the manga adaptation by Oosawa Mitsuki. It makes everything even more melodramatic than the game's original scenario. FE4 is one of the best Melrose Places of video games.
Anyway once I'm done playing all Fire Emblems insha Allah I'll have to play some romhacks too. I already played Fire Emblem Girls maybe in 2016 or so not sure anymore, and saw a let's play of The Last Promise in 2024 or so. I need to play Tales of Chohakkai next.
