Just A Short Random Example Of How Cake Cooked Caken Games Media Can Be
Maybe that old gaming blog you liked in the early 2000s was stolen by Cat's Eye
Asalam aleikoum how's it going. Today I was looking up the security/vibecoding concerns raised towards a certain recently released online game. I have no interest in the game myself, only searching to satiate my curiosity.
I quickly stumbled into a Japanese gaming site with an English article on said game. I was surprised to see a Japanese site bothering to do an English article like this. I immediately wanted to learn more about that site. I'm sure a small part of my brain might have even thought "Woah there's a JP - EN bilingual gaming news site I didn't know about? Maybe they're hiring with good working conditions and pay?".
I tried looking for an "info" page, a "contact" page or the like. Couldn't find anything at all. So I went over to the original Japanese version of the site.
The Japanese version included a bio for the author. A quick translation would read: "This blog is written by a female gamer playing games for over 20 years, sharing my opinion on games and sometimes writing about things I think you should know about".
Seems like a cool blog at first glance. So I looked at the index, which went as far as 2017. There were only like a few dozen articles published per month since 2017, sometimes only one article per month.
However, starting September 2026, the site boasted 3410 articles published...... compared to 89 in August 2026. And starting September 16 2026, all articles have English versions..... I wonder how this Japanese gamer with 20 years of experience managed to do this....
Needless to say it's all SEO guides focusing on recently released popular online games. Mabinogi Mobile. Aion 2 and the like. "Best pets builds". "Best sub characters". "how to upgrade your skills". Etc.
Just in case if the old articles were antedated and the site itself was all a recent scheme, I picked a random 2017 article from the blog and searched it on Internet Archive. There were hits from 2018 and 2019. I can conclude that in the past, this site was a genuine blog written by human hand, and at some point in 2026 was taken over by Haibara Ai. I wonder if the author became LLMpilled or if they sold their site to a company or something.

This is one way of enshittification that didn't really cross my mind till now. It's common for big sites nowadays, in games media and beyond, to be bought over by companies who lay off the writers and start churning out Cat's Eye articles. But I was naive and didn't realize this can also happen to random small personal blogs. There must be hundreds of older gaming blogs and the like that must be similarly compromised or lost.
Anyway if you liked this article and are financially stable enough, you can consider subscribing to the ko-fi. Over there, I share my impressions on various stuff, and translate/summarize Japanese official live streams and interviews. I also write "political" articles. Lately I also started writing for my tier 2 ko-fi subs a series that focuses on chara design and Black characters in anime-styled works. See all the links above and the table of contents.
