Asalam aleikoum how's it going. This is a sample for our summary, translation and analysis of the Super Robot Wars April 21 stream, which most notably announced an Expansion Pack for SRW Y. I recommend first checking this article regarding the Super Robot Wars 35th anniversary and the status of the SRW OG series:

As always I tried to include as many comments and analysis as possible to make this worthwhile. The full article (3600 words) is available for tier 2 Ko-fi subs.
Intro, live stream delay due to the April 20 earthquake in Northern Japan
Bandai Namco initially announced on April 15 that a news stream for Super Robot Wars would be held on April 20, with new info on SRW Y and SRW DD. However, the stream was cancelled a few minutes before it began. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake had happened a few hours prior in northern Japan. When the stream was about to begin, tsunami warnings alongside warnings for a possible bigger earthquake were still in place. Bandai Namco thus cancelled the stream via Twitter.

The cancellation announcement tweet was met with praise by JP fans on Twitter. I've seen many replies mentioning feelings such as "This is a good decision, we can wait".
I've also seen some JP fan mention something like "It'd be messed up if a series like SRW, which advocates protecting the earth and life, would disregard an event like this". Overall I feel like everyone met the news with understanding and praise.

On April 21 at 1000 JST, the Super Robot Wars Twitter account announced that the stream was pre-recorded and will be published the same day at 1030 JST.
Super Robot Wars April 21 2026 Stream
The stream started with the usual MCs, the comedy duo Gattsukitaika, introducing themselves. They were immediately joined by SRW Producer Y Toma Kota and SRW DD producer Matsumoto. This is the first time since the August 2025 stream (when they fully revealed the first two DLCs) that both producers appeared together on stream.

TomaP explained it doesn't feel that long though since he actually watches all the DD focused live streams too. He also mentioned that he is still not used to live streams and admitted to "shaking with stress".
Starting 03:00 they brought up how April 20 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the series, revealing the anniversary logo
TomaP thanked the fans and everyone supporting the series, saying it wouldn't have continued without their support.
This prompted a fun discussion with each producer shortly mentioning their history with the series. In 1991, TomaP was only five years old, so he only got into the SRW series a bit later.
MatsumotoP said he actually wasn't born yet in 1991. He never owned a Game Boy and his first console was actually the Nintendo DS. (Woah he's younger than me lol...)

Next they revealed the 35th Anniversary logo. TomaP explained they tried to keep the same motif and pattern as the previous anniversary logos. As for the colors, they picked blue because it's also the theme color of SRW Y and red because it's the theme color of DD.
06:25 SRW Y new information segment -Trailer announcing the SRW Y Expansion Pack "Infinite Dimensions"
After the trailer, TomaP shared some comments on each of the featured series.
Space Runaway Ideon

TomaP comments in a nutshell: Ideon wasn't in a console SRW since Alpha 3 in 2005. Unlike Alpha 3 you don't get a Game Over if the Ide gauge is full. Certain specific elements that were in Alpha 3 will only happen in story scenes. And "something" happens that shows how terrifying Ideon can be. Play the DLC to find out.
(I have yet to watch Ideon. Problem with all these old series is I wanna watch them with some family members and scheduling schedules is hard).
Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack Beltorchika's Children

TomaP comments: The two playable units are Hi-Nu Gundam and Nightingale. Each units has close range, long range, and a MAP attack, so they're each an army of their own.
Cross Ange Rondo of Angel and Dragon

TomaP comments: Only playable unit is Bilquis with Ange. He specified this is Ange from the late half of the series, so she has a lot of different weapons. (you can tell because Ange's hair is long, it regrows over the course of the series).
(I already said that many times but Cross Ange is by far one of the best anime of the 2010s decade. It's a truly amazing series. Sadly it's a bit hard to recommend to narrow-minded people who judge books by their covers. Or to people who can't stand objectionable anime, with the girls being half naked most of the time. Embryo is arguably one of the best villains ever when it comes to showcasing realistic misogyny and just how horrible sex pests are. Can't wait to see how he'll get horribly destroyed mentally and physically in this DLC's story)
Idolm@ster Xenoglossia

TomaP comments: This is the first time Idolmaster Xenoglossia appears in a console SRW. It's an amazing series so you should watch it if you haven't yet. The playable unit is Imber, it has short-ranged but powerful attacks. Its defenses are quite high too and it has a special barrier called the Air Field.
Idolmaster Xenoglossia was the first ever TV anime adaptation for Idolmaster, aired in 2007. But instead of adapting elements of the games, it was a completely original mecha anime. The seiyuu for the characters are also different.
Xenoglossia first appeared in Cross Omega via a time-limited collaboration in December 2015. Cross Omega was released on October 4 2025. Xenoglossia was in fact the first time-limited addition in the game.
I never watched Xenoglossia, really want to one day. I've been aware of Idolmaster since the late 2000s via otaku culture osmosis but I never really had the time to watch any of the anime. When it comes to the games, I only had the time to play Starlit Season a little for now. Wanna get to it at some point. Nowadays I'm also playing Gakuen Idolmaster / Gakumas.

I always really liked Azusa though since I like onee san type characters and like blue-haired characters. Her original design with long hair. Overall I really like Idolmaster's early chara design by Kubooka Toshiyuki. I've never really been into idol music regardless of era/type, but I really like the fashion. And how early Idolmaster has a clear 90s to early 2000s pop singer aura and fashion, similar to Morning Musume or Namie Amuro's fashion. It's visually a bit different from the other type of idol industry that got a new reboom in the late 2000s with AKB (not that I dislike those either).
That's all for the sample. Full article on Ko-fi.
