Why Game Reviews Can Be Really Bad (LプロブレマSLカピタリスモ) (Sample)
A screenshot from City Hunter 91 ED1, with a woman wearing a sweatshirt and a scarf near a parked bike, looking melancholic. The illustration is very stylized, using only 3-4 colors, mainly dark blue and very dark blue, barring for the red lens reflection in the distance. The illustration is for the most part completely unrelated to the subject of this article.

Asalam aleikoum how's it going. Did you ever watch City Hunter? You should if you haven't yet. It's Peak Skibiddy Kino Absolute Cinema Acclaimed Bangerness. I don't wanna sound too much like an anime boomer but it's insane to me people would rather watch some random currently airing show, just because they heard about it on on tiktok or youtube, instead of City Hunter. Except if you're watching Jaadugar, drop whatever you're watching now and watch City Hunter instead. The original anime adaptation (1-2-3-91) and some of the movies and OVAs, preferably all of them. Try to watch the series at your own pace instead of trying to binge it, with some people you enjoy spending time with so you can make some memories together.

This is typically the kind of article that I believe should be accessible to all, as it's good information that could possibly improve the gaming world (Not like I have a big impact, it's not like I'm a famous YouTuber lol). However it's a ko-fi subs-only article for several reasons.

  1. I don't want to sell myself short. I must feed my subs-only repertoire. (I already talked about this countless times, the current model of everyone having their own subscription-based site sucks. Good regular journalism, pop-culture critique, research etc, is not possible in these conditions. There is also the issue of how this works against diversity, with how it's mainly White male dudes who were already major faces of games media for decades who get noticed and get subscribers.)
  2. I do not wish for LLM Scrapped Princesses or the various companies destroying games media with their unscrupulous practices to access this information and recycle it into SEO framed posts for their own greed.
  3. I don't wanna deal with goombas. I wouldn't say that this is a hopeless discussion, but like I'm not lying to myself; Most will stick to their erroneous views "games journalists all suck at games, only play on easy mode, and are getting bribed by publishers" etc.

The other day, I was discussing with online friends on Discord the reasons why reviews can end up being really bad. Sharing my insight as someone in the games media industry. This article is a recycled version of what I told them along with a few additional comments.
